Return to "ValueApps - Collaboration"The Weblog ValueApp has a variety of options for advanced users. If you wish to change the way that the Weblog ValueApp functions, use the Options tab at the top of the Weblog admin area. The Options page is broken down into five sub-sections, each with multiple preferences that control the way the Weblog ValueApp works.
General
Weblog Title - This is the name that is displayed at the top of the weblog pages.
Tagline - Depending on the theme you are using, this could be displayed on the sidebar of your blog, or directly below the title at the top of the page. This should be a one sentence description of your blog.
Weblog address (URI) and Blog address (URI) - These define the exact URL to your copy of Weblog and should not be modified under normal circumstances.
Email Address - This is the address that will be used by the Weblog system to send out any alerts or lost passwords.
Membership - These options allow you to control how user accounts are used.
New User Default Role - This option allows you to change which level of access a new user will have once they register for an account with your weblog.
Date and Time - This section allows you to update the timezone and week start day that will be used for the timestamps and calendar in your blog, as well as to apply a specific date format. The date format options should not be changed under normal circumstances.
Writing
Size of the post box - This allows you to set the size of the text area for the blog contents when editing or creating a new blog post. Feel free to change this to a larger number if you have a large monitor.
Formatting - Controls the formatting of code and tags entered in your posts.
Default post category - This allows you to change the category that posts are filed under if you do not select another category for them.
Writing by e-mail - This section is for advanced users who wish to set up writing by email. By default, writing by email is not enabled and mail sent to the weblog will not be processed.
Update Services - List the URL’s to any weblog update services that you would like to alert when a new blog post is added. These services will then show other internet users that you have made an update to your blog, helping to drive traffic to your site.
Reading
Blog Pages - This option allows you to change the number of posts displayed per page in your blog.
Syndication Feeds - These two options allow you to change the amount of information displayed in your RSS feed to those who subscribe.
Weblog should compress articles - Use this option to instruct the Weblog to compress your articles; use this if you make very long posts to reduce bandwidth. Some slower computers may have a delay when loading your blog pages with this option checked.
Discussion
Usual settings for an article - These options control the defaults that the Weblog system will use for posts regarding comments and Trackback pings; you can modify these when posting on a per-post basis using the Discussion section on the right side of the Write Page area.
E-Mail me whenever - These options allow you to specify what action to notify you the Weblog system should take when a new comment is submitted or blocked.
Before a comment appears - These options allow you to specify how the Weblog system should handle new comments.
Comment moderation - Use this option to create a list of words or links that should flag a comment for moderation. For example, entering the name of a competing company will allow you to prevent comments linking to their site from appearing in your blog without your approval.
Comment blacklist - Words or links in this text area will force the comment to be silently deleted without notification; enter words that would only be found in spam posts here to prevent legitimate comments from being deleted.
Permalinks
This section of the options area allows you to specify how the URL’s for your blog posts should appear. Some people prefer to have the direct URL to a blog post simply contain a number, while others prefer to show the post title in the URL. Be sure that you do not change this frequently, as it could break links that have been bookmarked.
Miscellaneous
Uploading - This area allows you to specify the directory on your VDS where uploaded files are stored.
The other advanced options on this page are for people who are migrating from other weblog softwares and should be left as the default in most cases.
