Uploading your Website Content with WSFTP

WSFTP is an extremely popular FTP client, available for download at http://wsftp.com/. Once you have downloaded and installed WSFTP, you are ready to configure it to access your site.

Open WSFTP

Click the Connect button in the lower left-hand side
Fill in the following information:

  • Profile Name - Enter a name for the site
  • Host Name/Address - Enter your domain name

Important Note: Your domain is just yoursitedomain.com, not http://yoursitedomain.com or ftp.yoursitedomain.com etc.
Important Note: If your domain name has not propagated, use your IP address which can be found in your Customer Manager.

  • Host Type dropdown menu - Leave default (Automatic detect)
  • User ID - Enter the FTP username for your hosting account

Important Note: If you are uploading your primary site the username is your VDS username and if it is a Virtual Host then this is the username you created for this domain.
Important Note: If you are on a Name Based VDS, or a name-based resold account, you will need to use the format username%yoursitedomain.com when connecting.

  • Password - Enter the FTP password for the hosting account

Important Note: Again, if this is the primary site, use your VDS Manager password but if it is a Virtual Host, use the password you entered for the user you created.

  • Account - Leave blank
  • Anonymous checkbox - Leave blank
  • Save Pwd checkbox - Check
  • Comment - Leave blank

Click OK

Two lists appear:

  • The server files are on the right
  • The local files are on the left
  • In the folder on the right do the following:

Open the var folder

Open the www folder

And finally the html folder

Important Note: Double-click on folders to open them.
Important Note: Use the up arrows to go up a folder level.

In the folder on the left, find your local files

Important Note: To upload a file, select it in the folder on the left and click the arrow in the center of the program window that points to the right.
Important Note: To download a file, select it in the folder on the right and click the arrow in the center of the program window that points to the left.
