Return to "FAQ"The ability to add a new domain name, also known as a virtual host, to your account is one of the key features of VDS hosting. Each of these Virtual Hosts will appear as their own website, with their own separate content, not sub-domains like many hosts provide. These appear to the outside world as being completely individual sites.
When you add a virtual host, you first need to create a specific directory inside of your VDS for the new sites content. You can either do this manually using your FTP software, or you can create a new FTP user specifically for the virtual host.
To create a new FTP user for use with the virtual host:
Log in to your VDS Manager by clicking the ‘Login to VDS Manager’ link from the Products page of the Customer Manager, which is located at https://my.jumpline.com.
Click Accounts on the left
Click the
button
Enter the following information:
Important Note: Password must be 6-8 characters with at least one number
Click
Now that we have a user and the directory for the site created, we need to actually associate the Virtual Host with this directory so that our servers know to host the domain.
Click on Domains in the lower left
Under Domains, click Add domain
Enter the following information:
Leave the other settings (such as “Use local mail server“) as their default for best results.
Click
Your Virtual Host has been added; be sure that you have the correct nameservers listed for your domain with your domain registration provider, and your site should be online within about 24-48 hours.
