Developing a Secure Site with Shared SSL

The topic of this article is not supported by our customer support department, however for your convenience we are providing this material to assist you in troubleshooting potential issues related to this topic.

To use the shared SSL on the server you will simply use the URL:

https://ssl.myhostcenter.com/example.com/ (where example.com is your actual domain name)

We have implemented a simple proxy so that pages can be accessed securely using this method.

Some important points to note:

* This service is intended for light usage. It is not suitable for shopping carts. If you are using a shopping cart, you should purchase your own SSL certificate.

* You will need to adjust your links in your pages to either be relative to the directory, or be completely absolute (i.e. include the hostname). Specifically, root relative urls like /cgi-bin/formmail.pl will not work.

* If a domain given does not resolve to an IP address for network checking, you will be shown an Invalid Domain page.

* If the IP address the domain resolves to does not reside within our network, you will be shown an Invalid Network page.
